WILDLIFE DEFENDERS, a program of Bridges for Brain Injury, visited Westminster on March 12, 2017. The presenters are people who are recovering from, or learning to overcome, traumatic brain injury or other debilitating circumstances.
Practicing and honing speaking skills, improving social skills, and learning about the animals is part of the healing therapy of Wildlife Defenders. Traveling to speak to various groups and agencies spreads awareness and encourages preservation of the wildlife on our planet. Thank you, Wildlife Defenders!

THE FAITH IN PLAIN ENGLISH
This column exists to help take the mystery out of "Christian-ese" and to make the faith a little more understandable and a little less intimidating.
Everyone has probably seen movies that show church-going people standing waist deep in a warm, muddy river, then being plunged under the water by a preacher, and coming up out of the water with happy, glowing faces.
That's one picture of baptism!
Who does this....and why do they do it?
WHO: The 2.3 billion Christians around the world. Baptism is foundational to the Christian faith.
WHY: It imitates Christ's baptism and obeys his command to be baptized.
WHAT DOES BAPTISM MEAN?:
The exact meaning and method varies among denominations. Some baptize infants; some baptize those who have reached the age of reason. Some do both. Some sprinkle the head with water; some submerge the whole body.
To some denominations, baptism is a symbol of one's choice to follow Christ; to others, baptism is the event that brings in that new life in Christ.
But all Christians agree that baptism is important, that it is ordained by Christ, and that
it illustrates a cleansing, a transformation, a metamorphosis, in the life of followers of Jesus Christ.
DO OTHER RELIGIONS PRACTICE BAPTISM?
Although the Israelite priests practiced ritual cleansing, it wasn't until close to Jesus' time, and John the Baptist, that the baptism of repentance was practiced. Other major world religions have their own meaningful rituals, but Christians are the only ones who practice baptism.
Have you been baptized? Why?......or why not?
" Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Jesus from Matthew 28: 19-20
